B. Janardhana Poojary is a senior politician from Indian National Congress party. He was an earlier Union Minister and Karnataka's Congress President. During the governance of Smt. Indira Gandhi, he was elected as Union Minister of State for Finance in 1982 and he persisted to be Union Minister of State for Finance during the governance of Rajiv Gandhi until 1987. Later Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi elected Sri. B. Janardhan Poojary as Union Minister of State for Rural Development from 1987 to 1989. Sri. Rajiv Gandhi also nominated Sri B. Janardhan Poojary as General Secretary of All India Congress Committee in 1990 as well as chairman of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in 1990. He continued his rule as the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee during the governance of Prime Minister Sri. P. V. Narasimha Rao.

B. Janardhana Poojary

B. Janardhana Poojary is a senior politician from Indian National Congress party. He was an earlier Union Minister and Karnataka's Congress President. During the governance of Smt. Indira Gandhi, he was elected as Union Minister of State for Finance in 1982 and he persisted to be Union Minister of State for Finance during the governance of Rajiv Gandhi until 1987. Later Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi elected Sri. B. Janardhan Poojary as Union Minister of State for Rural Development from 1987 to 1989. Sri. Rajiv Gandhi also nominated Sri B. Janardhan Poojary as General Secretary of All India Congress Committee in 1990 as well as chairman of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee in 1990. He continued his rule as the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee during the governance of Prime Minister Sri. P. V. Narasimha Rao.

Mr Poojary did his early education at Bockapatna Municipal Higher Elementary School and Canara High School. He completed his secondary education and graduation of B.Com at St. Aloysius College, Mangalore and LL.B. from The New Law College, Mumbai.


Before joining politics, he was a pursuing  barrister from 1960 to 1979. As an advocate,  he actively participated in safeguarding the interests of poor agricultural tenants and helped a large number of poor people by giving them free legal aid. He was responsible for the construction of several school,colleges and temples, including the Kudroli Temple in Mangalore. During the term as Union Minister of State for Finance, he organized credit camps to give aid to the weaker sections of the society. He is better known as Badavara Bandhu (friend of the poor) for his work in assisting the poor.
